Armoured Sea Robin

This species is distinguished by the following characters: barbels, 2 on lip and 2 (rarely 1) on the chin; head and body with scattered dusky small spots; upper lateral bony plates of caudal peduncle with antrose spines (Ref. 93228).

Inhabits warm tropical seas along the continental shelf edge and slope and insular areas (Ref. 9771). Benthic (Ref. 75154).

分布於印度-西太平洋區，包括臺灣、日本、東海、南中國海、阿拉弗拉海、德貝 (澳洲)等。臺灣分布於東北部、南部及西南部海域等。

一般以拖網漁船捕獲較多，因身上附骨板，適合煮湯，多與豆醬同煮；或充作下雜魚、魚粉等用途。全年均可捕獲。

體延長，稍側扁；頭部扁平，邊緣接近平直，由上往下看近三角形。當鰓蓋閉合時，兩吻突幾近平行，比眼徑長，超過左右吻突的基底距離長的兩倍。上下兩頜皆無齒。下頜具三或四對(普通為四對)觸鬚，最長的一對延伸至眼睛的前緣。前額中央部位具一三角狀的小棘；眶後骨棘尖銳且堅硬，但隨著成長會逐漸圓鈍；前鰓蓋棘銳利且硬，比鰓蓋棘長；兩個鰓蓋棘，1個非常弱小，幾乎消失，另一個則尖銳且大。肛門前方有兩對腹板。體被骨板狀鱗，側線鱗數31-33。背鰭連續，VI-VII硬棘，15-18鰭條，硬棘部與鰭條部之間有一凹刻；臀鰭軟條15-17；胸鰭基窄，後緣寬，下方具有2個游離鰭條。體黃褐色，頭側、背側及背鰭均具褐色斑點。有些學者將本種魚列入黃魴鮄科(Peristedidae)。

主要棲息於砂泥底水域。
