Description
provided by World Register of Marine Species
This species has calical structures which appear more solid than most other species of Alveopora. It is also the smallest, with calice diameters of 1 to 1.5 mm only. Septa are clearly alternating, with six first order septa extending almost to the central axis, and the second order septa being only a quarter of the calice radius. There is no columella. (Sheppard, 1998 ). Colonies are flat undulating plates. Corallites are 1.2-1.7 mm in diameter, usually with regularly tapered septal spines. Polyps are short with knob-like tentacle tips. Colour: pale pinkish-brown to bright pink, sometimes with grey oral discs and tentacle tips. Abundance: rare, found only on protected fringing reefs. (Veron, 1986 )
