These tiger beetles were common along the open sunny parts of the track.

aka Cicindela tuberculata or Common Tiger Beetle. These little chaps can really hoof it it short dashes, and unlike many beetles frequently also employ flight. Local forms are more commonly in grey and cream colours. Elsewhere in the country these can be metallic greens with yellow. Commonly found along the side tracks within Abel Tasman NP where no paving material has been introduced. Considerably less common along the coastal 'highway' track over the years, since the surface was modified and numbers of users have increased dramatically.
