Shrubs and trees with leaves crowded at ends of branches. Flowers borne in axils of current leaves. Sepals 8, in 2 dissimilar whorls of 4. Corolla of 8 deeply 3-lobed petals. Staminodes alternating with stamens, triangular, fused into a cone. Fruit a 1-seeded berry. Seeds with a large basal scar.

Vitellariopsisrodzaj roślin z rodziny sączyńcowatych obejmujący 5 gatunków[4]. Przedstawiciele rodzaju występują w tropikalnej i południowej Afryce wschodniej[5][6].

Morfologia

Do rodziny należą gatunki krzewiaste i drzewiaste, których liście skupiają się na końcach pędów. Kwiaty wyrastają z kątów liści. Kielich składa się z dwóch okółków liczących po 4 działki. Korona kwiatu tworzona jest z czterech głęboko trójklapowych płatków. Prątniczki wyrastające przemiennie wobec pręcików zrośnięte są z nimi w stożek. Owocem jest jednonasienna jagoda[6].
