perennial on cut bank of coarse re-cemented weathered gypsum/silty limestone gravels along drainage at base of hillside slope of inter-bedded anhydrite & silty limestone (Castile Formation). Note the reddish rhubarb-like stems of the glabrous blue-green leaves emerging from a thick, woody caudex.
