Resident in somewhat patchy distribution of western North America (Scott 1986). Habitats are UPPER SONORAN TO HUDSONIAN ZONE OPEN WOODS, BRUSHY AREAS, SAGEBRUSH AND PRAIRIE. Hosts plants are usually herbaceous with most known hosts from family POLYGONACEAE, especially genus Eriogonum. Eggs are laid singly on the host plant. Individuals overwinter as eggs. There is one flight each year with the approximate flight time JUL15-AUG31 (late JUN-AUG 15 in Southern California and coastal areas) (Scott 1986).

Adults sip nectar. Males usually patrol for females, but perch in northern California (Scott, 1986).
