Orobanche alba on Thymus (4809' N 1657' E)
Description :
2010.05.30 Austria, Lower Austria, district Bruck/Leitha (295 m AMSL).Flowering in (may) june/july.Relatively rare.German name: Quendel-SommerwurzID: Fischer & al., Exkursionsflora (2008 3rd); this is a tough one as far as ID is concerned - corrections and objections of course welcome. For ID see the habitat shot: there is really only one candidate for host plant, and that is this one (leaves here), some Thymus species (it could/should be the same one shown here).Orobanche alba lives parasitic on many Lamiaceae, Thymus being one of them, which is an important indicator for ID.However, I haven't dug it out to make absolutely sure so there's a chance that I'm wrong.
